Message from the Chair - Connecticut Multicultural Health Partnership

Message from the Chair

April 5, 2013

April is Minority Health Month, and like other organizations, the Connecticut Multicultural Health Partnership is happy that the health needs of racial and ethnic health minorities are  being emphasized. The theme, this year is “Advance Health Equity Now: Uniting Our Communities to Bring Health Care Coverage for All”.  Emphasis will be on implementing the Affordable Care Act, which has many provisions designed to improve health access and the health status of those who historically have experienced health disparities.

But what if we had Minority Health Year, or Minority Health Decade, during which time we once and for all ended health disparities. All of us in the Partnership want this. Many of us work toward that goal every day.

So, what will it take to achieve that goal? What do you personally need to do, or need to do differently, to reach that goal? I urge you to examine these two questions, and then act on your conclusions. A movement, such as ours, organized to bring about health justice requires many individuals working with awareness and conscientiously towards a collective impact. It requires us to work in concert and not in competition – with the overriding good that we seek for all foremost in our minds.

Now is the time. Let Minority Health Month be a time for soul-searching and for action. And let’s continue that over the entire year, and for many years to come.

Let’s end heath disparities once and for all!
