Hispanic Heritage Month 2015

National Hispanic Heritage Month

As you know, throughout the year there are national awareness months dedicated to a variety of subjects like cultural groups, health concerns, environmental issues, and more. Since August of 1988 when it was enacted into law, from September 15 to October 15, the United States recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month. These four weeks celebrate the contributions of Hispanic Americans who trace their ancestry to Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean and Central and South America. It also is a time to highlight successes, as well as challenges these communities face as we search for solutions.

To learn more about National Hispanic Heritage Month and health care, I encourage you to visit the Office of Minority Health’s website:

and for local information, the Hispanic Health Council (www.hispanichealth.com) and the Connecticut Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission (https://www.cga.ct.gov).

Best,
